Joyeux Noël

Joyeux Noël was a good movie. Takes places during Christmas 1914, on the front lines of WWI. It depicts the Christmas truce that took place in several spots along the trenches. Pretty wild concept, considering the brutality of the war. A bit of battle at the beginning but otherwise it’s about the men and their stories. Excellent dvd rental, worth a special trip to the art house if you’re interested. (the wikipedia article on the truce is good too)

Geshia

Eh. Read the book. It’s more interesting.

Glory Road

Glory Road was a pretty good movie. Basketball fans would probably be more into it. Not being a huge bball fan, I’m glad I saw it and I would recommend this as a good netflix choice.

The Matador

With some trepidation since Guy (friend at work) commented I’m very easy with my ratings, I have to say I loved The Matador. Greg Kinnear and Pierce Brosnan are both fantastic. Pulling this story off required an odd couple-like pairing, which they slid right into. Arclight was a blissfully commercial-free movie experience as always.

Crash

Oh my! Crash deserves whatever oscar nominations it receives. The story could have been obvious and uninspiring, but it wasn’t. The twists could have felt manipulative, but they didn’t. The way characters kept bumping into each others stories could have felt artificial, but they’d didn’t. In the brave new world of “why own a dvd there’s netflix”, this is a movie I want to own. Good stuff.

six feet under

Carol and I just finished disc 1 of Season 3 of Six Feet Under. Very funny! I don’t think I’ve blogged about this show before. It makes me laugh, think, and occasionally cry a little.
