bandwidth report

uh oh. I’ve got some time to kill this morning before a doctor’s appointment. Guess what I found myself doing? Catching up on rss feeds! Doh! So much for my bandwidth. Speaking of rss feeds. Check out page2rss.com. It’s a nifty service that will take any page and turn it into a feed so you can monitor it for changes. Nice.

wordpress upgrade

Woot. Finally, I upgraded the software that runs my blog. The new editing interface is pretty slick and seems to support Safari pretty well. I think I was in the shower the other day when I had a thought about my asymmetric bandwidth usage and how that translates to mental something-or-other. Recently, I’ve gotten very into Google Reader, and I’ve made a point to only subscribe to podcasts that I actually find the time to listen to. Now I’m now doing all this rss feed reading and podcast listening. While I do that, I’m thinking about what I’m taking in. I’ll think about it for a bit while it happens or maybe for bit afterwards, but then, since I take in so much raw data, not much happens with the information. Soon, it’s lost. Hence, my mental something-or-other.

Here’s where the geek context comes in: asymmetric bandwidth usage. My brain is like typical home DSL line. Great downstream bandwidth, but lousy upstream bandwidth. The bandwidth analogy led me to decide maybe I should try to produce more stuff, like blog entries and photos. Notice how this entry has multiple sentences and even paragraphs. Long time readers will know how rare that is. So, there you go. WordPress 2.5.1 and longer blog entries! Huzzah!

iPauloville

Well well well. I have no idea what the point is, but I would enjoy having a thriving population for iPauloville. Head over and help populate iPauloville.

Update 3/19/2008 – iPauloville is intentionally being left to rot. Never had a point, never should have kept going as long as I did. Bad iPaulo, bad!

what I’m reading

This shelfari widget has not one but two links to their site, without any links to my personal shelf on their site nor a link to the book itself. You can add a “buy now” link but I’d rather just link to amazon without buy being so important. Darn, I’m still trying to get the “I’m Reading” sidebar item working right but can’t so far. Darn. For now I put text links. Oh, and don’t go by the “own” list. Shelfari added that recently or something so only some books seems to be appearing. It’s odd.

photo blogs and galleries

I was catching up on some tech reading and found my way to the blog of Mike Matas (he does interface design at Apple). At a party on New Year’s Day I met Marty Cohen. They both take nice photos. After looking at Marty’s site this morning, I spent a few minutes looking at Chromasia.com again. He’s still taking great pictures.

fido

Not quite a zombie movie for the whole family, but Fido is probably as close as it gets. As much as I love Carrie-Anne Moss in tight plastic suits, she’s even better in roles like this one. The 1950’s setting of this movie is classic. Run don’t walk to your netflix queue to add this puppy.
