diving continues

Woohoo! I made it through day three quite successfully. I didn’t like the snorkel descent skill today, but that’s easy enough to practice. A few highlights: it turns out my dive buddy Eivar is from Hacienda Heights (same town I grew up in), I got 49 of 50 questions on the final exam correct, my hover isn’t so great but my buoyancy while swimming was much improved. Really looking forward to tomorrow’s trip on the Pacific Star boat out to Santa Barbara island. I’m very happy with the training I’ve gotten from my instructor Brian and the folks at Eco Dive Center. All goes well tomorrow and I’ll have my PADI c-card. Hopefully the beginning of a long, fun and safe dive hobby. Still deciding if I’m going to wait till Sept 24/25 to do more diving as part of an advanced open water course, or dive in with a nighttime adventure this week with people from the shop. Hmmm. Decisions decisions.

Miami Vice

Eh. It was better than needles under the toenails, but not as good as playing with Malcolm (did that not work? try the jpg. btw, I’m experimenting here with Mac versus Windows gamma. If either image is bad on your computer, let me know)

podcast awards

My my. Looking at the podcast awards nominations, I was boggled by the number of podcasts I’d never heard of let alone listened to. The podcasts I have listened to are: Five Hundy by Midnight, Tips from the Top Floor, The Signal and President’s Weekly Radio Address.

jon stewart on internet tubes

The payoff to this youtube video is at the end. Hang on, ignore whatever political feelings you may have because the payoff is worth it. (p.s. Oh! clogged tubes on clariticity already covered this. Missed that. A friend at work sent this to me)

Prairie Home Companion

A Prairie Home Companion and Prada made a nice Meryl combo weekend. Ying and Yang with the high fashion maven and Yolonda. I had forgotten Robert Altman made one of my favorite movies about the arts, The Company. And, now after scrolling way down Altman’s imdb page, I see he made 6 episodes of Combat! I watched Combat! on channel 56 in the days before cable, when channel 56 meant black and white shows and fewer but off the wall commercials. And, scrolling just a touch further, I see he also did 8 Bonanza episodes! I’ve always wondered what Altman was famous for, now I know. It was his eight episodes of Bonanza.

devil wears prada

Oh my. I still haven’t put back the reviews. Oh well. It was a good weekend for movies. Carol and I saw The Devil Wears Prada, which was fun. Until I get the reviews back up, I’d say this was a 4.

photo oops

oh darn. So much for 1 picture a day. I was doing so well for a few days. Oh well. With Gary’s visit, I slapped together a best of slide show, so I’ll post a web gallery of that real soon. Anywho. Have a great Friday everyone!!

And, if you want to see cool photos and haven’t seen Chromasia, check it out. He’s on a layering kick right now which is not always pleasing to my eye. If your eye agrees, check out some of the older stuff.
