they are estimating 3 million

they are estimating 3 million copies of the latest harry potter book have been sold. amazon.com
has a counter which shows they’ve sold just over 400,000 copies. In
other words, more than 13 percent of all the hp4 books sold have been
sold by amazon. that’s amazing.

UCLA CERT Training

through ucla, i just took the first of five classes in disaster preparedness offered by the lafd‘s cert training program. the first class on earthquakes was pretty old hat to a native californian. someone who lives on the beach did ask about tsumani’s and tsunami warning time. google revealed many good sites – the most applicable to the question of warning time was the tsunami warning system.

another thing i thought was worth passing on… during a major
disaster, 95% of all first aid and rescues will be done by someone
other than the fire department or other part of the EMS system. that
kind of woke me up to the fact this class wasn’t just some silly thing
ucla was having me go to as part of some cal-osha requirement, blah
blah blah. it’s good info for everyone. i’d recommend people check it
out personally and perhaps organize some kind of neighborhood plan –
the cert site shows lots of people who have done just that. it has links to similar programs nationwide

i am looking forward to next week’s class – we get to put out real fires with extinguishers.

is there a god? i’m

is there a god? i’m now beginning to wonder. let’s look at the facts.
i’ve been having a difficult time resisting the urge to play diablo ii more. doing so would be bad, since i really need a break from the game. even the new harry potter book
almost wasn’t enough to stop me from reassembling my computer and
playing diablo until i collapsed last night. then, what happens? i cut
my finger and voila, no more chance to play diablo. then we have the
left behind series. as already mentioned, it’s pretty stirring stuff
for the agnostic. coincidence, fate, or devine intervention? i don’t
really know, but i wonder.

alas. for the next 7-10

alas. for the next 7-10 days, iPaulo will be using the mostly lowercase
style that is so popular on the net these days. i slashed my finger
working inside a new computer and have 4 stitches and a bulky bandage
on my left index finger. for a hunt-and-peck blogger like myself, this
injury is pretty debilitating. please, no flowers.
