Van Helsing

Could the special effects in this movie been any more h0kie? It’s really too bad. Whatshername looked promising in this movie, but she just didn’t work. The 3 women vampires, who I think were discovered at Hooter’s, weren’t sexy in the least bit. All and all, just not worth the time. (and, yeah! I saw this movie a long time ago but I just got around to posting. I’ve been busy, sorry.)

Shaolin Soccer

Don’t watch the <no-linky>trailer</no-linky> for this movie! Like practically every trailer made today, it would suck the surprise right out of your movie going experience. At times it’s so wacky, I was too stunned to fully enjoy it. Hence the less than perfect ipaul rating. As myk said, it’s easy to see why this was such a popular movie in hong kong.

Jersey Girl

Saw this movie with Thom. Ben Afflick managed not to suck. Raquel Castro was cute as his daughter Gertie. This was Kevin Smith’s first PG-13 movie; I heard he hopes it will be his last. [this is a time warp post! I just couldn’t get around to posting this one]

Passion of Christ

As I drove home the night I saw this with mike, I couldn’t decide how I felt about giving this movie an iPaulo rating. I’m still unclear why I was hesitant but I’m going to go ahead and give it a rating. Painful, torturous, moving, powerful, stirring, sad, rich, scary, amazing.

Starsky & Hutch

What a blast! Plenty of ’70s cliches.
The S&H Grand
Toreno
. Cheerleaders. And well executed surprise
at the end along with a couple nice outtakes. This movie really exceeded my expectations.

And by the way, sometimes these movie entries are going to suck. Here’s the reason. With the new blogging engine, I was able to tie the blog posted here into the movie review list over on the side. Now, it’s kind of automagic. Neat, huh?

Dreamers

Oh, and what a bummer. My longest streak (3 in row) of full iPaulo movies came to an end last night watching Dreamers.
Unless I horribly misjudged his reaction, Myk’s whopping 13 🙂 movie
streak came to an end as well on Friday the 13th. Sad but fitting.

The Company

Carol and I saw The Company last night. What a movie! This is one of those movies where I wished the iPaulo scale had more letters!! Neve Campbell
(btw, what kind of name is Neve?!) , who trained with the National
Ballet of Canada before turning to acting, was good although I was
waiting for a 3 way ala Wild Things
for about half the movie. The dancing was amazing. Each dance sequence
was short, beautiful, and cinematically just plain interesting. Add the
context from the behind the scenes stuff leading up to each sequence,
and I was totally enthralled by ahem.. ballet. I read a view blogs by
people who were ballet fans who didn’t like the movie very much. But to
me, a complete ballet neophyte, it was great (btw, Fog of War was also
an ipauloooooooo movie!)
