Spent the morning at SF

Spent the morning at SF MOMA. Saw my first piece of art that employed elephant dung. The dung seemed unnecessary, but the rest of the painting was really nice. Also saw an exhibit of Rene Magritte, which is worth a trip all by itself. (i'll add links later when I'm not at risk of my sister calling my a "total nerd" for posting to my blog from her terminal at work. this was a stealth post with her away from her desk.)

I'm thinking about giving my pal Kevin access to post blogs to iPaulo - he sends me so many gems like this one. Watch the movie 405 at ifilm.com or go check out the 405themovie website.

Should iPaulo ever go to

Should iPaulo ever go to the extreme presented in Home Page? (oh, btw, this is a 100 minute short film in real audio format - the links are still interesting if you don't have time to watch the hole movie) I don't expect I will but who knows. iPaulo has become a little stagnant lately.

Star Wars fans should rush

Star Wars fans should rush out to see this fan made trailer fast. I assume Lucas will have it taken down soon. I love the scene from BraveHeart with the lightsabers added. It looks so good I hope it's actually in the movie.

Saw the X-men movie (beware, it's a flash heavy, 56k gagging site) tonight with the Clan Wallace and Myko. Better than sliced bread? No. An above average summer action movie? Yes. Wolverine is clearly 'da man. I'm not a fan of the comic book but Myko heard a fan next to him have several Big O's throughout. So I think it's safe to say fans of the comic will like the movie.

I put out a fire!

I put out a fire! Well, a fire in a pan, with three firefighters nearby, in a training class. Still, it was fun. They said aim at the base of the fire. I aimed at the base of the pan holding the fire. Ooops. Hence, I was one of the people who made a huge white cloud of monoammonium phosphate as opposed to the big cloud actually needed to put out the fire. It wasn't as large as the gigantic cloud people made who aimed above the fire. Still, my apologies to paramedic Stacey who was standing behind the firepan. 8-)

My First G-men

boy yo. I've got a good one. Today, I met my first G-men. It was pretty cool. They were invited to speak to a computer security group at UCLA. Someone made the joke "how do we really know you're from the FBI?" They laughed but all the while whipping out their 'creds'. One of the guys was exactly what you would expect. It's amazing how much some movie/TV cops are like this guy. One was a bit more nerdy, but still had the fbi-tude. The third was an older, wizened gentleman with just a hint of the fbi-tude. Anyway.

As you can see, I'm using mixed case again. The stitches on my finger are out and it looks like I might not have a scar after all. So much for that. I guess I'll have to keep trying.

alright! The Kid is doing

alright! The Kid is doing better. thanks to everyone who went to see the movie this weekend. Keep spreading the word about this corny but good movie.

what's the deal people? The Kid with Bruce Willis is a light movie fun for the whole family. go see it! (i'm losing my shirt on HSX) seriously, it's bubble gum, but it's tasty and it doesn't stick to your mouth when it blows up in your face.

ok, some news. went to the doctor yesterday and my finger is looking pretty good. i think i'll have a scar i can wear proudly, but sean says the stitches will prevent that. next, a hunt. i'm in my office looking at my sierra club calender with an amazing photo of a place in chile called the salto chico cascades. it's amazing. the river and rapids below a mountain range (the cuernos del paine i think). i did some looking, but i couldn't find any other photos of the same place (with the river) on the net. if you do, let me know. (btw, i think it's kind of weird that a search for 'chili' on google, yahoo, and go all return recipes. not a thing about the country Chile)

they are estimating 3 million

they are estimating 3 million copies of the latest harry potter book have been sold. amazon.com has a counter which shows they've sold just over 400,000 copies. In other words, more than 13 percent of all the hp4 books sold have been sold by amazon. that's amazing.

UCLA CERT Training

through ucla, i just took the first of five classes in disaster preparedness offered by the lafd's cert training program. the first class on earthquakes was pretty old hat to a native californian. someone who lives on the beach did ask about tsumani's and tsunami warning time. google revealed many good sites - the most applicable to the question of warning time was the tsunami warning system.

another thing i thought was worth passing on... during a major disaster, 95% of all first aid and rescues will be done by someone other than the fire department or other part of the EMS system. that kind of woke me up to the fact this class wasn't just some silly thing ucla was having me go to as part of some cal-osha requirement, blah blah blah. it's good info for everyone. i'd recommend people check it out personally and perhaps organize some kind of neighborhood plan - the cert site shows lots of people who have done just that. it has links to similar programs nationwide

i am looking forward to next week's class - we get to put out real fires with extinguishers.

i'm on a blogger list

i'm on a blogger list at air hockey saloon and i'm a redhed at zippyblog. i've always wanted to be a redhead. neat.

is there a god? i'm

is there a god? i'm now beginning to wonder. let's look at the facts. i've been having a difficult time resisting the urge to play diablo ii more. doing so would be bad, since i really need a break from the game. even the new harry potter book almost wasn't enough to stop me from reassembling my computer and playing diablo until i collapsed last night. then, what happens? i cut my finger and voila, no more chance to play diablo. then we have the left behind series. as already mentioned, it's pretty stirring stuff for the agnostic. coincidence, fate, or devine intervention? i don't really know, but i wonder.

alas. for the next 7-10 days, iPaulo will be using the mostly lowercase style that is so popular on the net these days. i slashed my finger working inside a new computer and have 4 stitches and a bulky bandage on my left index finger. for a hunt-and-peck blogger like myself, this injury is pretty debilitating. please, no flowers.

Waaa-whoooo! Diablo is dead. After

Waaa-whoooo! Diablo is dead. After a mammoth battle, Dame Amadala, Dame Kariya, Dame Ope, Sir Dyrkimus and Sir Myximus are crowned. Sir Seanicus also receives an honorary title for his heroic contribution to Dame Kariya's juggling of parenting, child-sitting and bowazonning. Days and days of 5-player/computer battles by responsible 30+ adults and we don't have a single picture or screenshot. Drat - just shows you how immersive the game is. Oh well, it was still fun.

Whew. Taking a breather. It

Whew. Taking a breather. It feels very odd to be doing something other than sleeping or playing Diablo 2. I've started a party with a group of friends. We've all got our computers over at a friend's house and we've played several nights in a row till 5 am. Sleep deprivation as well as too much time concentrating on being our characters has led to a few problems. Hopefully everyone will make it through organic chemistry, be able to resume normal parenting patterns, and generally be able to interact with humans outside of the game when we're through. Wish us all luck.
